about

Ecce sulcus!

Seriously, never before have I been prouder of myself for just stacking a bunch of loops together and running them through effects. This was my attempt to create an acid house track, having listened to very little house music and only vaguely understanding the basic principle. I did not succeed, but the result was a banger of a breaks track, so I'm happy. It was supposed to have more samples, but I think the sudden gamelan intrusions, drum machine MIDI data played as keyboard sequences, splatters of metal bashing and deranged scatting more than make up for the lack of appropriate spoken interjections about '60s radical politics. This is a dance song about truly righteous anger gone astray. I think that's uncomfortably appropriate now.

The emphasis on percussion and atonality led to great potential for improvisatory live interpretations, and Autosuggestion performed this one several times under the title "Weathermen" (after a recurring lyrical preoccupation in later interpretations of the song). Whenever I should reassemble a live band for performing Silence and Secrecy material, a revisitation of this old chestnut will certainly be on the agenda.
