about

It began with a snippet of a live marimba intro to "Are You Shivering?" from a Coil bootleg, looped awkwardly in an inappropriate tempo. Next came amped-up audio test clips, radio noises, and bizarre tone generator melodies using outlandish frequency ratios run through ghastly pitch effects (also featured on the first part of "No-One Holds the Key to the Tower"). Lastly, the synths, and the recycling can. The result strikes me as vaguely reminiscent of very early Philip Best, albeit without the swearing.

The first part of the title came from a mental calculation of measures as inches rooted in the similarity between DAW bar grids and rulers. The rest is a somewhat cheeky riff on the sample wedded to the unsettling implications of something precisely that long and—going by the track—strange and aggressive.
